Like many people, I’ve started to think about the new year and making changes, doing things differently, launching personal projects. I’m fascinated by all of the many ways that people approach making (or not making) resolutions AND by hearing what they want to adjust.
I don’t generally make the cold turkey kind of resolutions that New Year’s has become so infamous for. No quitting this, or doing that every day forever more. I’m more likely to pick a word for the year or aim to do something more/less/in a new way.
I have a few ideas I’m working on for 2019.
Leading up to 2018, Gretchen and Liz from Happier podcast detailed their plans to each create an 18 for 2018 list. They did two episodes on the subject: #149 that detailed their own lists and #152 that was a deep dive into the idea after the community embraced the idea. The things on the list weren’t habit changing practices necessarily, but tasks that had long gone ignored or pleasurable experiences they’d been wanting to take part in. Throughout the year, they’ve offered several updates and they were really quite successful!
At the time they’d introduced it, I’d thought it would be fun to try it, but I never got around to making my list. I’m determined to make a 19 for 2019 list to make up for it.
So, I’m working on that and a few other start of the year themes I want to implement.
How about you? Will you make resolutions? Put some new habits into place? Do you try for new beginnings in the new year? Or do you feel like January 1st is just another day?
